The Future is Fast with Samsung

June 16th, 2011 by admin

The latest smartphone from Samsung is the Samsung Galaxy S II. This feature packed handset has at its heart a dual core processor that runs as a clock rate of 1.2 GHz, which is as fast as it gets. There is only one other smartphone that can compete in terms of processor speed, the HTC Sensation, but additional enhancements to the Galaxy means that it is faster and has a faster screen refresh rate, which means smoother games and videos. Both phones run the latest version of the Android operating system.

But if you think that that is fast, then as they say, you haven’t seen anything yet. Samsung have announced that they have now developed and fully qualified a new system on chip (SOC) production process that can produce devices with features as small as 28nm. For the technically minded, this new process uses high-K metal gate technology. What is means is that the chips will use 35% less power than those that they will replace which are 45nm chips, but more importantly they will be faster; a lot faster.

The new devices will run at least as fast as 2GHz and probably considerably popular. These new devices will be dual core so that in effect the new smartphones that they will power will have the equivalent of two processors each operating in excess of 2 GHz. That is really startling performance and just a little while ago was only available in top end PCs. Read more
